A South African staple, that everyone enjoys, now you can make your own anytime the craving calls.


4 cups flour

2tsp yeast

1/4tsp salt

2tbsp sugar

1.5 - 2 cups lukewarm water

Salt and pepper


Knead ingredients altogether in a bowl until well combined.

Cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rest in a warm place to double in size for 30-40min

Knock out the air from the dough, shape into balls and let it rest

Heat oil on low-medium heat.

Deep fry for about 3-4minutes, turning them to cook evenly.

Note- How to test the appropriate heat for Amagwinya? Sprinkle some flour on the surface of the oil, when it sizzles it’s ready.
